Bridgeport Public Schools Additions and Alterations

Project Description

Additions and alternations to an existing public school housing grades K-12 consisting of 8,700 square of renovated space within the existing building. A new addition of 67,400 square feet which was dived into three phases, with the first area being a 28,500 square foot two story educational unit consisting of post and beam construction with interior light gauge framing. The second area being a 5,500 square foot commons area with similar construction, and a third 33,400 square foot new gym and theater addition constructed out of an attached pre-engineered metal building. During construction a fourth area of 2,400 square foot was added to the second story of the educational unit to house a library. Project included multi-colored instructional casework and counter tops, up to date educational technology, as well as a state of the art gym floor dehumidification system that was installed due to water table levels. Also included was the demolition and complete removal of the existing grade school which is where the new gym and theater are now located.

Project Role

Construction Manager at Risk who was charged with overseeing all aspects of construction from pre-construction through final completion. Responsible for all sub-contractor activities, scheduling, procurement, change order management, as well as site safety and quality control. During construction the school board hired a new Superintendent that had different views than the those the project was designed with, which led to many changes in the overall design and finish of the project. Anderson-Shaw Construction played a monumental role is the creation, verification, and life cycle of these changes, and managed to complete the project within the originally specified time constraints.
